Oxendine Urges Georgians to protect their holiday travel insurance:
With the possibility of closed beaches due to an oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine calls on Georgia to ensure that passengers are protected against potential losses holidays.
"Whether your family is headed to the Gulf Coast or abroad, travel insurance can protect against any financial loss if you are forced to cancel, delay or interruption of your vacation," said Oxendine.
Travel insurance can protect against the loss of non-reimbursable travel expenses such as airfare and hotel costs. Other forms of travel insurance protection against losses due to medical emergencies, damage to personal property, and even death.
Main types of travel insurance are:
Cancellation - reimburse you for prepaid travel if you are unable to take your trip because you or a family member becomes ill or dies.
Travel Delay - compensates you for pre-paid expenses if you are unable to take your trip because of a travel delay as a delay or cancellation.
Trip Interruption - reimburses you for prepaid expenses if your trip is cut short because you or a family member, sick or dying, or because of another accident in your policy. Covered reasons may include bad weather, airline strikes, terrorism, bankruptcy, jury, or fire or flood damage to your home. Medical insurance and accidental death Medical or Health - reimburses you for medical and emergency dental expenses you have as a result of an illness or injury while traveling.
