'Every Rose Has Its Thorn'Bret Michaels performed:
Bret Michaels surprised millions of viewers, turning nine on the season finale of "American Idol" to perform "Every rose has its Thorn." The guest spot was the first major Michaels' musical appearance since suffering a subarachnoid brain hemorrhage last month, followed by a series of health-related setbacks.
So what's the story behind that song? For some it is a familiar tune by star Miley Cyrus, who recently under. But Michaels (Poison and fans), the song's history goes much deeper. In an episode dedicated to him on VH1's "behind the music," Michael revealed that he wrote: "Every Rose has its Thorn" as a way to cope in the aftermath of his breakup of the former girlfriend Tracy Lewis.
According to the frontman of Poison, the titular song of the rose represented thriving music career, while the thorn was a metaphor for how the success had cost him the relationship with Lewis. Though forged in heartbreak, "Every Rose" finally rose to the top of the Billboard Hot 100, where he stayed for three weeks, from December 1988 until January 1989. It was Poison's first and only # 1 hit.
"Every Rose" was not only a commercial success, but also found a place in popular culture. The track played a memorable role in 1991 the "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey", with rock-obsessed movie idiots reciting lyrics of the song to enter into heaven. And along with Michael Cyrus for her remake of the Poison tune who landed on her latest album, can not be tamed.
Of course, the song resurfaced during the Wednesday evening (05/26) "American Idol". Sing the track with third place finisher Casey James Michaels followers with a strong message:
Just as every rose has its thorn, and every night has its dawn, "Michaels' Troubles are linked - and exceeded - his triumphs.
